What the On-Site Lab Changes for All-on-4 Teeth

An on-site dental lab for All-on-4 means the teeth are designed in this building. The studies do not show that the address changes implant survival.

  • The clinic says the sister lab in Orléans mills and prints the restorations, with no outsourcing.
  • Named equipment on the team page: a PM7 mill, Asiga Professional Series printers, and 3Shape scanners, run by registered dental technicians.
  • The 2003 series built a reinforced acrylic bridge the same day, then metal or milled titanium for one group of patients.
  • Those papers do not compare an in-house lab with a lab in another building.

What does this clinic say the lab does?

The meet the team page says Renew's sister clinic, Orléans Denture Clinic, operates a full on-site lab staffed by registered dental technicians. It names a PM7 milling machine, Asiga Professional Series digital printers, and 3Shape scanners, and it says the workflow is digital and that work is not outsourced.[1]

The All-on-4 dental implants page says the teeth are designed before treatment day with digital imaging and that on-site lab, including shape, shade, and fit. The same page says the implant surgeon places the implants and the denturist team attaches the teeth.[2] Who is allowed to do which part of that work is spelled out in denturist and dentist roles for implant teeth.

What do the studies say the lab is building?

Maló, Rangert, and Nobre describe the object, not the postal address of the laboratory. The same-day bridge was acrylic, reinforced with a metal strip, with at least 10 teeth. For the development group, the later prosthesis was cast metal in the first seven patients and a milled titanium Procera bridge in the other 23, made 4 to 6 months after surgery. The routine group mostly stayed in reinforced acrylic. Nine early acrylic bridges fractured and were repaired; after the acrylic was thickened, the routine group had no fractures in the reported follow-up.[3]

That is evidence about materials and timing. It is not evidence that a lab inside the clinic building produces higher implant survival than a lab down the street. What All-on-4 meant in that protocol keeps the surgical definition separate from the workshop.

Why does Renew keep the lab in the same building?

The team page's reason is practical: the technicians, the mill, the printers, and the scanners are here, and the work is not sent out.[1] The denturist can design the teeth with the people who will mill and finish them, in the same plan as the surgeon who places the implants. A quote that itemizes lab work is discussed in what is included in an implant quote.

Tom Szarski, DD, is the denturist. He does not place the implants. The free consultation includes a 3D scan. Keeping the lab in the building is a description of how this clinic is organized. It is not a survival statistic.

Frequently asked questions

What is in the on-site lab?

The team page says the sister clinic, Orléans Denture Clinic, runs a full on-site lab staffed by registered dental technicians. The equipment named there is a PM7 milling machine, Asiga Professional Series printers, and 3Shape scanners, on a digital workflow, with no outsourcing.

Does an on-site lab raise implant survival?

The All-on-4 studies cited here do not make that comparison. They describe the prosthesis: acrylic on the day of surgery in the 2003 series, then cast metal or milled titanium for one group. Survival in those papers is about implants and bridges, not about which building housed the lab.

Who designs the teeth if the surgeon places the implants?

Tom Szarski, DD, is the denturist. He designs and fits the teeth. The implant surgeon places the implants. The lab technicians fabricate the restoration. Scope for the denturist, as distinct from the dentist who places implants, is explained in a separate article.
